Wake Forest Track and Field Opens 2025 Season at Virginia Tech

The Demon Deacons return to action, continuing their indoor season with two meets scheduled.
WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. – In Wake Forest's first competition of the 2025 indoor season, the men's and women's track and field teams will travel to Blacksburg, Virginia, on Jan. 17 to compete in the Virginia Tech Invitational. The Deacs will wrap up the weekend at the Mondo College Invitational in Winston-Salem.

Competing for the Deacs (Virginia Tech Invitational)
Following a dominant opening weekend, with back-to-back victories at the Visit Winston-Salem College Kickoff and the JDL Early Bird Invitational, ACC Performer of the Week Robbie Grace returns to the field this weekend in Blacksburg, Va.
On Dec.7, Grace claimed first place in the women's long jump with a mark of 5.86 meters. The next day, Dec. 8, she led the Demon Deacons with two jumps over 20 feet, coming within four inches of her Wake Forest school record. Her leap of 6.11m earned her a second consecutive first-place finish in the event.
The Minnesota native ranks No. 2 on the ACC Indoor Performance List and is No. 4 in the Southeast Region.
Trailblazers on the Track
Charlotte Augenstein and Rylan Engels are headed to Blacksburg, ready to make waves in the 1000m and 1-mile events after shattering personal bests and setting new facility and meet records in the 1000m at the JDL Early Bird Invitational.
Augenstein took the lead, finishing first with a time of 2:46.98, while Engels secured second with a time of 2:47.74. The duo now holds second and third place on the women's Wake Forest Indoor All-Time List for the 1000m.
After a standout performance in Boston, where he set a personal best of 7:53.05 and climbed to third on the Wake Forest Indoor All-Time List, Paul Specht will compete in the 3000m.
On the Hunt
Isabella Gera will compete in Blacksburg and Winston-Salem after winning the shot put event with a throw of 14.99m and placing fourth in the weight throw (17.66m) at the Visit Winston-Salem College Kickoff on Dec. 7.
Continuing her strong form on Dec. 8, Gera captured first in the weight throw with a mark of 17.54m at the JDL Early Bird Invitational.
Jacob Goldberg is also set to compete in both meets after posting a career-best in the weight throw at the Visit Winston-Salem College Kickoff on Dec. 7, recording a throw of 18.43m and moving to seventh on the men's Wake Forest Indoor All-Time Performance List. He claimed first in the weight throw at the JDL Early Bird Invitational on Dec. 8 with a mark of 18.34m.
Lining up for the men's 1-mile, Luke Tewalt looks to build on his dominant performance in the 5000m, where he set a personal best of 13:36.03 on Dec. 7 in Boston.
Tewalt will be joined by JoJo Jourdon, who made an impressive 5000m debut, clocking 13:44.52 in Boston, and Hunter Jones, who took first in the 3000m with a time of 8:04.77* at the Visit Winston-Salem College Kickoff.
Molly Dreher and Elizabeth Whaley will race in the 1000m after notable finishes in the 3000m in Boston, clocking 9:23.34 and 9:28.48 in the 3000m event, respectively.

The Deacs' head back to Boston, Mass to compete in the BU Terrier Classic that is being held from Jan. 31 to Feb. 1. Meanwhile, other squad members will travel to Columbia, S.C. to compete in the Gamecock Challenge on Feb. 1.
