The Demon Deacons are 5-0 against ranked opponents since the start of September.

WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. – Continuing its dominant stretch, the No. 5 Wake Forest field hockey team defeated No. 19 California, 6-2, on Sunday afternoon at Kentner Stadium to push its winning streak to 13 straight victories.

The Demon Deacons (13-2, 6-0 ACC) extended their longest winning streak since 2006, a season that ended with a trip to the NCAA Championship game. Wake Forest also preserved its perfect home record, improving to 9-0 at Kentner Stadium for the first time since 2005.

Junior Mia Schoenbeck was the driving force behind Wake's potent offensive attack, as the LaGrange, Ky., native netted four of the Demon Deacons' six goals on the afternoon. It marked the first four-goal game of her career, and she now sits one point away from becoming the first Wake Forest student-athlete to reach 40 points in a season since Jule Grashoff's 56-point campaign in 2018.

Schoenbeck's penalty corner goal in the first quarter, assisted by Mia Montag and Flo Tuthill, extended Wake Forest's streak of scoring off corners to 13 consecutive matches. She would go on to add two more goals off set pieces, as the unit has now accounted for 24 of the Deacs' 57 total goals this fall.

Senior Amelia Frey found the back of the cage for the third-straight game, giving the Deacs a three-goal cushion in the second quarter. It marked the sixth goal of her career, with the previous three coming during her 2023 sophomore season.

Junior Rory Heslin scored the first goal of her career, slotting one past the Cal (6-7, 2-5 ACC) goalkeeper late in the third quarter to stretch the Wake Forest lead.

With three assists on Sunday, Montag recorded her 20th career helper, and her 14 assists this season mark the most by a Demon Deacon since Megan Anderson's 29 in 2018.

Quotables
"
"It was just a huge weekend. I have a tremendous amount of respect for both opponents and even greater respect for our squad. I thought it was a really successful weekend; both teams taught us valuable lessons, and that's what the season is all about. It's about improving your game while learning from what your opponents show you. Today was especially rewarding, knowing that the things we asked of our group in the second half against Stanford showed up again. We showed a lot of courage throughout our lines, and I'm incredibly proud of that." – Head Coach Jen Averill
