No. 5 Wake Forest Hosts Pair of Non-Conference Matches this Weekend at Kentner Stadium

The Demon Deacons look to push their win streak to double digits this weekend.

WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. – The No. 5 Wake Forest field hockey team continues a five-game homestand this weekend against Queens and Delaware at Kentner Stadium.

The Demon Deacons and Royals are set for a 5 p.m. ET start on Friday, October 10 on ACC Network Extra. 
 
Push back against the Fightin' Blue Hens on Sunday, October 12 is set for Noon ET also ACCNX.

We Are Wake Green Game vs. Queens
As part of World Mental Health Day, Friday will serve as the program's We Are Wake match, as Demon Deacon student-athletes will wear special green warmup shirts and staff will wear green ribbons for the contest. 
 
We Are Wake empowers the Wake Forest community to recognize distress, respond effectively and connect to support. Through this initiative, We Are Wake elevates a culture of care, promotes healthy practices, equips peers with skills to help and links our community to essential resources for well-being. Opponent History
Wake Forest and Queens will meet for the first time in program history on Friday.


The Demon Deacons and Delaware have met on three previous occasions, with Wake Forest holding a 3-0 advantage in the series. The two teams last met in 2012. 

Wake Forest Highlights
  • The Demon Deacons have climbed to their highest ranking since being ranked fourth in October of 2022. 
  • Wake Forest (9-2, 4-0 ACC) holds its longest winning streak since 2008, a season that saw the Demon Deacons advance to the NCAA Semifinals, and sit at 5-0 at Kentner this season, entering tomorrow's match.
    • The 4-0 start to ACC play marks the first time since 2005 that the Deacs have earned four-straight wins to start conference play. 
  • The Demon Deacons enter Friday having won nine consecutive matches while outscoring their opponents 30-6 during that span.
  • Wake Forest leads the ACC in shots with 210. 
    • The Deacs lead the ACC by 12 shots, with Syracuse the next closest at 198. 
    • Wake Forest is averaging the second-most shots on goal per game in the ACC with 10.82. 
    • Over the nine-game streak, the Demon Deacons are outshooting opponents 188 to 71.
      • The 39 shots against UMass Lowell marked the most in a game for Wake Forest since at least the 2018 season. 
  • Wake ranks second in the ACC with 75 penalty corners so far this season. 
  • Junior Mia Schoenbeck ranks tied for fourth in the conference with 10 goals through the first 11 matches.
    • The LaGrange, Ky. native's biggest goal of the season thus far came in double overtime to help the Demon Deacons take down No. 2 North Carolina for the first time since 2017. 
    • She added a trio of braces in Wake's wins against Davidson, Longwood and UMass Lowell. 
    • The junior clinched the win over Miami (OH) less than two minutes into the overtime period, sending a laser past the RedHawks keeper. 
    • Schoenbeck ranks fifth in both shots (40) and shots on goal (21) among ACC student-athletes.
  • Sophomore Lauren Storey leads the conference in both shots (61) and shots on goal (39).
    • She netted her first hat trick of the year against Longwood and added another against UMass Lowell. 
    • She is one of just three ACC athletes to have multiple three-goal games so far this season. 
    • Additionally, she is one of just five in the conference to have scored double-digit goals so far this season, knocking home her 10th of the year against UNC. 
  • After scoring just once during her freshman season, back Mia Montag delivered a brace in the opener against Iowa and added two more goals against UMass Lowell.
    • She ranks tied for eight overall in points in the ACC with 18, adding 10 assists to go along with the four goals.
      • Her 10 assists rank second in the ACC. 
  • Of the 12 athletes with 15 or more points so far this season in the conference, Wake Forest holds three of them with Storey (25), Schoenbeck (21) and Montag (18) all ranking in the top eight. 
  • Head Coach Jen Averill picked up her 450th career win earlier this season as the Demon Deacons defeated UMass Lowell 9-1.
