
Luke Tewalt Notches First Team All-American, Secures Eighth at Indoor NCAA Championships

During the final day of the NCAA Championships senior Luke Tewalt posted 7:54.42 in the men's 3000 meter race.
VIRGINIA BEACH, VA. — On Saturday night, senior Luke Tewalt closed out the 2025 NCAA Indoor Track and Field Championships, finishing eighth in the men's 3000 meter race with a time of 7:54.42. Wake Forest placed 35th overall.
Tewalt, a three-time All-ACC honoree, earned recognition in 2022 Cross Country and 2024 Outdoor Track.
This season, Tewalt shattered the program's 3000m record twice and registered three top-10 finishes, along with one top-15 finish.
Over the weekend, the Demon Deacons earned three All-American performances, placing 35th overall and fourth among ACC teams.

- In their Wake Forest track and field debuts, freshman JoJo Jourdon clocked 13:44.52 in the 5000-meter, while Grant Morgenfeld, finished in 14:02.
- Also in the 5000m, New Jersey native and freshman Angelina Perez made a remarkable Wake Forest track and field debut, recording a time of 15:47.38. Brooke Wilson followed with a personal best of 15:49.45, securing an impressive 32nd-place finish.
- Graduate students Charlotte Augenstein and Rylan Engels delivered electrifying performances in the 1000m event, shattering personal bests while setting new facility and meet records.
- The duo garnered the top two spots, with Augenstein taking first in 2:46.98 and Engels close behind in 2:47.74.
- In the women's long jump, Robbie Grace executed two jumps over 20 feet and came within four inches of her Wake Forest school record. Grace's leap of 6.11m earned her a second consecutive first-place finish in the long jump this weekend.
- Sophomore Rocky Hansen claimed victory in the men's mile, clocking 3:57.90, with Tewalt finishing fourth with a time of 4:02.22.
- In his collegiate indoor debut at the distance, Hansen placed 10th, breaking the Wake Forest all-time indoor record for the 5000m with a time of 13:14.43 and surpassing Zach Facioni, who had held the top spot since 2023.
- Extending her winning streak in long jump, Grace secured her fourth consecutive victory that matched both her indoor personal best and the Wake Forest all-time record, leaping 6.22m.
- Tewalt set a new Wake Forest indoor record in the 3000m, finishing sixth with a personal-best time of 7:39.77.
- Emma Douglass smashed her previous personal best of 2:05.25, finishing seventh with a time of 2:03.95 in the 800m.
- Grace secured her sixth consecutive first-place finish of the 2024-25 season, winning the long jump and breaking her previous mark of 6.22 meters with a jump of 6.29 meters to start the day and finishing with a leap of 6.37 meters.
- Her performance not only broke the Darius Dixon Meet record, which she had set in 2024, but also tied Liberty University's facility record.
- This moved Grace to No. 2 in the ACC and No. 18 nationally.
- The men's squad broke the program record in the distance medley relay with a time of 9:17.17, becoming the fourth-fastest all-time NCAA squad in the event. The previous record, set by the 2002 squad, stood at 9:35.16.
- The Demon Deacons' victory was powered by a spectacular performance from Rocky Hansen, who anchored the Deacs, narrowly defeating No. 6 North Carolina by a mere 0.02 seconds.
- Hansen's split time of 3:50.22 was 7.68 seconds faster than his personal-best for the indoor mile.
- Freshman Foster Shelbert blazed through the 400 meter mark in 47.97, senior Rynard Swanepoel surged to a 1:47.89 at the 800m, and junior Paul Specht dominated with a time of 2:51.13 for the 1200m.
- On opening day of the 2025 ACC Indoor Championships the men's squad claimed third place with a time of 9:32.19 in the distance medley relay at the ACC Indoor Championships, capturing second-team All-ACC honors.
- Paul Specht set the tone, completing the 400 meters in 2:54.36. Foster Shelbert followed with a 48.86 split at 800 meters, while Rynard Swanepoel clocked a 1:49.26 for the 1200 meters.
- Luke Tewalt anchored the Demon Deacons, securing third place with a 3:59.73 split.
- On the women's side, the squad set a new program indoor record with a season-best time of 11:06.9.
- Charlotte Augenstein (3:21.97), Aria Wegh (55.91), Emma Douglass (2:08.31), and Molly Dreher (4:40.77) raced in the relay to break the program's previous mark.
- During the final day of the indoor championships, Tewalt claimed second place in the 3000m, with a time of 7:39.09, securing first-team All-ACC honors and moving into the top 10 nationally.
- For the second time this season, he broke the program's indoor all-time record, previously set at 7:39.77 during the David Hemery Valentine Invitational on Feb. 14.
- He headed into the NCAA Indoor Championships ranked No. 9 nationally.
- In the women's 3000m, the Demon Deacons had three personal-best performances. Brooke Wilson (9:12.39) and Angelina Perez (9:16.32) finished in the top 15, while Molly Dreher posted a dominant time of 9:22.12.
- Paul Specht and JoJo Jourdon also competed in the mile finals. Specht finished fourth with a time of 4:02.84, earning second-team All-ACC honors, while Jourdon crossed the line in 4:06.08.
- Rocky Hansen claimed third in the 5000m, clocking 13:12.65. This was the second time during the 2025 indoor season that Hansen broke the indoor all-time program record.
- Only three American athletes in NCAA history have run faster than 13:12.65 prior to their 21st birthday. One was an Olympic champion, another an Olympian in Paris and the other was an NCAA champion that finished 3rd at the Olympic trials.
