
Demon Deacons Set to Host Third-Annual Wake Forest Invitational

On Thursday and Friday, the Deacs will host 56 teams on the Reynolda Campus in one of the premier track meets on the East Coast prior to postseason competition.
WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. - Wake Forest University and the track & field program are set to host the third-annual Wake Forest Invitational, welcoming 56 collegiate track and field programs this weekend at Kentner Stadium on April 17–18.

Schools Competing
To open the field events for the invitational, freshmen Rosalind Gergely and Julia Pinter will compete in the javelin on Thursday. So far, both athletes have dominated throughout their 2025 campaign.
This past weekend, Gergely and Pinter turned in strong performances with personal bests of 47.51 meters and 46.49 meters, respectively. The pair rounded out the top five with third and fourth-place finishes.
Heading into the meet, Gergely ranks fifth on Wake Forest's all-time list, with Pinter in sixth.
Record-Holder Swanepoel Set to Open 2025 Outdoor Season at Kentner Stadium
Senior Rynard Swanepoel, the reigning Kentner Stadium record holder in the 800m, is set to kick off his 2025 outdoor campaign on Friday.
The South African-native will toe the line at 7:24 p.m. in the 800m, returning to the same track where he made history during the 2024 Wake Forest Invitational. There, he blazed to a 1:45.84, but currently holds a personal best of 1:45.28 which he set at the NCAA East First Found, claiming victory on May 22, 2024.
Track Phenom Returns to Competition
Sophomore Rocky Hansen will take the starting line Friday afternoon at 7:35 p.m. at Kentner Stadium for the men's 1500m race.
Hansen, the fourth-fastest NCAA 5000-meter runner for indoor under the age of 21, delivered an exceptional performance in his last outing at the Raleigh Relays on March 27. He opened the 2025 outdoor season by breaking the Wake Forest program record, the meet record and the facility record with a time of 13:22.06 in the 5000m.
Hansen has his sights set on two major benchmarks as he lines up for the 1500m – the Kentner Stadium record of 3:36.58, set in 2023, and the Wake Forest program record of 3:37.65, which has stood since 2022.
He enters the race with a personal best of 3:45.52 and will look to close the gap in a competitive field.
Wilson, Perez to Line Up for Friday Night 5000 Meters
Looking to stay hot in the 5000m, sophomore Brooke Wilson will compete in the event Friday evening at (8:15 p.m.).
Wilson made waves at the Raleigh Relays on March 28, breaking the school record in her 10,000m debut with a time of 32:50.07, finishing seventh overall. She followed with a personal best of 4:22.01 in the 1500m at the Duke Invitational on April 11.
Joining Wilson in Friday's race will be freshman sensation Angelina Perez, who is set to make both her 2025 outdoor season debut and her first collegiate outdoor appearance in the 5000m. Perez last ran the distance indoors at the Boston University Sharon Colyear-Danville Season Opener on Dec. 7, where she clocked a personal best og 15:47.38.
Tewalt Primed for 5000 Meters
On Friday night, at 8:33 p.m., three-time track and field All-American and senior Luke Tewalt will make his 2025 outdoor debut competing in the 5000m.
In Tewalt's last outing and the conclusion of his indoor career on March 15, he placed eighth, clocking 7:54.42 at the NCAA Indoor Championships, becoming a First Team All-American.

Tailgating will start at noon and conclude at 8:00 p.m. Lunch and snacks will be provided from 12 p.m. to 3 p.m. and dinner from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m.
- Watch some of your favorite Deacs from past years compete in the mile beginning at 6:10 p.m.
- On Friday, April 18, four teams will compete for the women at 5:55 p.m., while eight teams will compete in the men's race beginning at 6:00 p.m.
- Of note, on Friday, April 18, seventeen Demon Deacons from Wake Forest track & field will be honored at Kentner Stadium at 5:00 p.m., for their time and dedication as graduating student-athletes.
