
No. 15 Wake Forest Falls Just Short at No. 3 Louisville in Double Overtime; Travels to Miami (OH) Sunday

LOUISVILLE, Ky. - The No. 15 Wake Forest field hockey team fell just short at No. 3 Louisville by a final score of 2-1 in double overtime at Trager Stadium on Friday evening.
The Deacs (4-5, 1-2 ACC) jumped out to a 1-0 lead over the Cardinals (10-1, 3-0 ACC) as Maggie Dickman deflected a pass from Abby Carpenter into the back of the net. Louisville tied the game as the teams remained locked at one for the final 19 minutes of regulation.
In the first overtime, the Deacs and Cardinals continued their fast and aggressive pace as the teams combined for five shots in the 10-minute stanza. Wake Forest's defense denied a pair of corner opportunities late in the period to force a second overtime period before the Cardinals broke the tie following their fourth corner at the 76-minute mark.
Dickman, a Louisville, Ky. native, netted her second goal of the season off Carpenter's first assist in 2021. Additionally, it was the first goal allowed in ACC play by Louisville in 2021.
Tori Glaister made her 14th straight start in net, notching a season-high tying four saves for the second time this season.

The Deacs took hold of the first pair of opportunities of the match as Nat Friedman fired two shots in a three-minute span.

Friedman's pair of shots were the only attempts from either side in the opening 15 minutes of game action.

Lousiville tied the game at one after a deflection off a penalty corner found the back of the net with three minutes remaining in the third period.

Wake Forest threatened with just under 90 seconds left in the third, but was unable to capitalize as the match remained tied.

Both teams traded shot attempts early in the fourth period as Glaister tallied her fourth save with 13 minutes remaining.

The Deacs threatened in the circle as Meike Lanckohr's first shot attempt was blocked following Wake Forest's fourth penalty corner of the match and Laia Vancells' fastbreak attempt was saved (52nd-minute mark).

With 33.1 seconds remaining, the Deacs regained possession following an official review of a Louisville offensive attack deep in the circle.

Just 12 seconds later, the Wake Forest defense made a stop on Louisville's third corner opportunity of the match to keep the Cardinals off the scoreboard and force overtime.

Grace Delmotte raced towards the circle and attempted the two shots of the overtime period, but neither found the back of the net.

Wake Forest's defense once again came up big, blocking a pair of attempts off Louisville corners. The pair of Cardinal corners were the final opportunities by either squad as the match entered the second overtime period.

Six minutes and 23 seconds into the second overtime, Louisville found the back of the net following their fourth corner of the period as the Cardinals secured the 2-1 win.
