Men’s tennis remains unbeaten at home this spring.
WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. – Amped up for another weekend at home, No. 8 Wake Forest men's tennis (29-5, 10-1) picked up a pair of victories on Friday, defeating No. 18 North Carolina 4-1 before taking down Pfeiffer, 7-0.
Wake Forest's victory over North Carolina was a milestone moment for the program, marking the 100th home victory since 2016. With the victory over Pfeiffer as well, the Demon Deacons are now 101-4 (.961) at the Wake Forest Tennis Center over the last seven seasons.
Another eye-popping accomplishment on Friday involved the team increasing its home record to 22-0. That mark of wins is officially now the most ever in a season throughout program history, surpassing the 20-0 home clip that Wake Forest held in 2018-19.
Additionally, Wake Forest has now won its last 18 regular-season matchups against 'Big Four' foes, dating back to a 4-3 over North Carolina on April 3, 2016. Sixteen of those matchups have occurred against a ranked foe.
Quotable
"It was a good day," said head coach Tony Bresky. "It is always nice to get an ACC win, and our doubles point was pretty tough, I was glad to see us pull it out in three matches. I felt we rode that momentum into singles. Some of our guys did very well in getting straight-set wins, which gave us some rest before the second match of the afternoon. It was good to get some different guys out there (versus Pfeiffer). In all, it was just good to be at home again. The outdoors were beautiful today and our fans were great. We're excited to get ready for Sunday and look to finish the regular season out strong."
