Live Scoring

CARLSBAD, Calif.  - The reigning National Champions Wake Forest women's golf team begins its title defense Friday, May 17, as the second seed of the 2024 NCAA Championship at the Omni La Costa Resort in Carlsbad, California.

The Demon Deacons are coming off a third-place finish at the Winston-Salem Regional last week to advance to the NCAA Championship for the 30th time in program history and sixth consecutive season. Graduate Rachel Kuehn led the Deacs for the week and finished as the co-medalist with a score of 12-under 204. Kuehn was the only player in the 66-person field to record an eagle in each round of play, making Wake Forest the only team in the field to record three or more eagles. Freshman Macy Pate also recorded one on the par-four 11th hole in her final round.

In her first regional appearance, Pate finished with a six-under score of 210. After making the turn of the final 18 holes at even par, her eagle on 11 helped her finish one-under for the final day, after finishing three and two-under in her first two rounds.

The Deacs won four titles during the 2023-24 season, including the program's eighth ACC title, which they won against Clemson at Porters Neck Country Club in Wilmington in April. Pate was named the 2024 ACC Freshman of the Year and head coach Kim Lewellen was named the ACC Coach of the Year for the third time in six seasons at the helm of the Deacs and the sixth time in her career.

Along with Pate, Rachel Kuehn, Carolina Chacarra and Mimi Rhodes all earned a spot on the All-ACC Team. This marks the third-consecutive year Wake Forest has had four or more players earn All-League honors. Kuehn is now a four-time All-ACC selection, and Chacarra and Rhodes are three-time selections.

Most recently, Kuehn was named a finalist for the ANNIKA Award presented by Stifel, and was selected to participate in the 2024 Arnold Palmer Cup. Kuehn has now tied former teammate Emilia Migliaccio for a record five AP Cup appearances. Pate and Lewellen were also named to the respective watch lists for the Women's Golf Coaches Association for Freshman of the Year and Coach of the Year.

Coach's Comments
"The course is in great shape, as we are the first people to play it since the redesign. It should test every aspect of our game, and decision-making will play a key role in our success here.

The team has had a good couple days of practice and we are excited to get started tomorrow.  Getting off to a nice start is important this week. One key for us is to conserve our energy both physically and mentally throughout the week. If we stay in a great mental state this week we will play great." – Lyons Family associate head coach Ryan Potter

Course Information
  • Omni La Costa, North Course – Carlsbad, California
  • Par 72 – 6,330 yards
  • There was an extensive renovation by the architectural team of Gil Hanse and Jim Wagner, and the NCAA Championship is the first event on the layout before it opens for public play. Hanse and Wagner implemented significant changes to the North layout. Among the renovations: A new drivable par-4 11th was built, the green of the par-3 16th was repositioned in a fashion reminiscent of Augusta National Golf Club's No. 12, and the par-5 18th was stretched to more than 600 yards with water on both sides of the fairway.

The revised layout features six sets of tees that play from 4,500 to 7,500 yards. Other changes include transitioning irrigation lines that will continue to use reclaimed water, the removal of several man-made ponds and the reintroduction of natural barrancas that feature drought-tolerant and native species of plants.

Format
Finals play for the championship consists of three days of stroke play on Friday, Saturday and Sunday (54 holes), after which the top 15 teams and nine individuals on non-advancing teams will be determined. That is followed by a final day of 18 holes of stroke play on Monday to determine the top eight teams that will advance to match play as well as the 72-hole individual champion. The team national champion will be determined by a match-play format that will consist of quarterfinals and semifinals conducted on Tuesday, followed by the finals on Wednesday.

Live scoring will be available via Golfstat and a full recap with results following each day's play will be posted on GoDeacs.com.
