Happy Bowl Selection Sunday, Deacon Nation!

It's official – Wake Forest Football is headed to our second home – the Queen City – and the Duke's Mayo Bowl! At 4:30 p.m., I got the call from Executive Director Will Pitts and was honored to accept his invitation on behalf of President Susan R. Wente, Head Coach Jake Dickert, and our exceptional student-athletes. We are excited to be back in postseason play and showcase Wake Forest University to the nation via the primetime ESPN broadcast.

For Wake Forest to be in our ninth postseason game in the last 10 years, which is tied for the second most in the ACC, and earn eight wins for the fifth time in the last nine years, reflects the tremendous progress Demon Deacon Nation has made in transforming the position of our football program in the ACC, and across the college football landscape.

Now, with the Duke's Mayo Bowl presenting an opportunity to capture a ninth win for just the fourth time in our history, it's gratifying to look back at a regular season full of twists and turns and ups and downs. Throughout it all, the constant has been the leadership of head coach Jake Dickert and a resilient, tough team of student-athletes who came together and put it all on the line for Mother So Dear. From Opening Night at Allegacy Stadium, when the Deacs ground out a win over a Kennesaw State team that finished 10-3 and won the Conference USA championship, to snapping back after a gut-wrenching OT defeat vs. then No. 16 Georgia Tech to capture our first win in Blacksburg since 1983, we witnessed the inspiring play of our Deacon mainstays like first-team All-ACC safety Nick Anderson and the emergence of stars like receiver and punt returner Carlos Hernandez who will form the core of our 2026 squad.

Statement victories like our thrilling walk-off Homecoming win over SMU to snap its 20-game conference winning streak, an underdog triumph over eventual 10-3 ACC Championship Game participant and CFP 19th-ranked Virginia in Charlottesville in front of an ESPN primetime audience, and our decisive defeat of the Tar Heels before a sellout crowd inside Allegacy Stadium helped Wake Forest finish with the best overall record among all six Power Four programs in the Carolinas.

As we look ahead to the Friday night, 8 p.m., Jan. 2 kickoff in Bank of America Stadium, Wake Forest's Bowl Central webpage is your home for details on tickets and fan events as you make your plans. We need Deacon Nation to show up in full force, and by purchasing tickets directly through the Wake Ticket Office, you help strengthen our bowl-attendance reputation.

I know our players and staff are excited to go against a talented Mississippi State squad from the SEC. Meanwhile back on the home front, Wake Forest Athletics announced the return of its Annual Seat Rights Program for the 2026 football season at Allegacy Federal Credit Union Stadium, giving fans the opportunity to lock in their same seats and enjoy added flexibility, priority parking, and enhanced renewal benefits. With multiple sellouts expected next fall, fans are encouraged to renew early and secure their spot as part of the Best Fan Experience in North Carolina. New this year, fans also have access to a limited-time $99 Built in the Dark Season Ticket Plan, offering one of the most affordable entry points in the ACC and it is available only through our Jan. 2 bowl game! Remember, this $99 price point increases to $149 after the Duke's Mayo Bowl and a Built in the Dark t-shirt is included with each purchase.

We wish all Wake Foresters the best in this week's finals. I expect Deacon student-athletes to continue the excellence reflected in the latest NCAA Graduation Success Rate announcement!

From the Quad Big 3
Before we close, here are tonight's Big 3 ways to help the Deacs:
  1. Congratulations to men's basketball on a big-time bounce-back win in Charleston over West Virginia last night. With 28 points to lead the Deacs, sophomore Juke Harris is emerging as one of the most exciting players in the ACC. Click here to grab tickets for our December men's and women's basketball games in Joel, including the big showdown versus No. 17 Vanderbilt on Sunday, Dec. 21, at 1 p.m.
  2. Join us at Wait Chapel tonight at 7 p.m. for the annual Wake Forest Lovefeast which brings the entire community together and recognizes Winston-Salem's Moravian tradition. The event is first come, first seated and can also be watched live here!
  3. Remember, tickets to Wake Forest events make great stocking stuffers! Also, visit WakeForestShop.com for all the latest gear, including our new line of Tie-Dye clothing!
Finally, congratulations are in order to 2025 ACC individual cross country champion and NCAA runner-up Rocky Hanson, who finished second in yesterday's USA Track and Field Championships. As such, Rocky will be wearing the red, white, and blue Team USA jersey at the 2026 World Athletics Cross Country Championships on Jan. 10 in Tallahassee. Go Rocky!

I'll see you soon in the Joel and at the Duke's Mayo Bowl! As always, email me at wfuad@wfu.edu, and…

Go Deacs!
