Competing for the Deacs (Thursday)
After an exceptional 2025 indoor campaign, Rocky Hansen is back at the starting line on Thursday, ready to compete in the 5000m.
Hansen capped off his standout 2025 indoor campaign at the NCAA Championships in Virginia Beach, Va., with a remarkable third-place finish on March 14.
His time of 13:12.65 in the 5000m earned him first-team All-American honors and made him the fourth-fastest American performer in NCAA history before turning 21.
Hansen is currently No. 3 nationally for the event and looks to build on his momentum from a stellar 2024 outdoor season, where he was named Second-Team All-American in the event.
While Hansen aims to carry his indoor success into Thursday's race, another standout, senior Emma Douglass, will showcase her talents in multiple events this weekend.
Douglass will compete in the 1500m on Friday and the 800m on Saturday, fresh off a dominant indoor campaign. She broke the Wake Forest indoor record in the 800m at the Eagle Elite Invitational in Boston on Feb. 14, placing seventh with a time of 2:03.95.
During the 2024 outdoor season, Douglass set a personal best in the 1500m at the Charlotte 49er Classic, clocking 4:30.34, and she currently holds a personal best of 2:08.41 in the outdoor 800m.
On the Hunt
Junior Joe O'Brien will make his debut in the 10,000m on Thursday evening. Last season, O'Brien competed in the 5000m at the Wake Forest invitational on April 19, 2024, setting a personal best of 14:13.32.
On Friday, the Demon Deacons return for day two of competition, with graduate Rylan Engels joining Douglass in the 1500m.
Afterward, sophomore Brooke Wilson will compete in the 5000m, where she holds a personal best of 15:51.57. Sophomore Angelina Perez will also join Wilson, making her outdoor season debut.
