When people think about college sports, they usually just think of the time that athletes dedicated to team practice and games; however, being successful team requires more than those few hours. Aside from the hours we spend practicing after classes, our team lifts twice a week and then we all have individual lessons with one of our coaches twice a week. And for those of us who do not play half a game, we have off-day running, the day after we have a game.

Although some people might cringe at the sound of off-day running and view it as a punishment rather than as a tool for improvement, it's a chance for those who don't play to improve their conditioning and an opportunity for us to get to know our teammates better. So far this season, off-day running workouts have included 300 shuttles (running to the 50 yard line and back 3 times), 1 minute 100's (running 100 yards in 18 seconds and getting back to the start within the minute), biking, a 40-minute farlick, and more recently a two-hour hike. As you can see, the coaches like to switch up the running from week to week and maintain some excitement in the workouts by adding cross-training workouts. Below are some pictures from the two-hour hike from this past weekend.
