Tewalt Runs Sub-4 Minute Mile for Spot as First in School History
2/12/2022 6:50:00 PM | Track and Field
LYNCHBURG, VA — Demon Deacon freshman Luke Tewalt stole the show on the second day of the Darius Dixon Invitational. Tewalt finished the Men's Mile Race in fourth out of the sixty-eight runners competing in the event by posting a time of 3:59.94. While his placement alone is newsworthy in and of itself, Tewalt's recorded time not only places him first in school history but is the first recorded sub-4 minute mile by a Wake Forest athlete.
With the American U20 record in the 3000M and a sub-4 minute mile under his belt, Tewalt's future is one to pay attention to. Joaquin Martinez de Pinillos followed Tewalt up with a 4:01.47 mark, placing third all-time in the mile.
SODERSTROM PLACES FIRST IN HIGH JUMP AGAIN
After placing first in the Women's High Jump at the Hokie Invitational less than a month ago, Soderstrom did it all over again finishing the Darius Dixon Invite at the top of the podium. Her mark of 1.74m, 0.08m short of her personal record, was just enough to squeeze ahead the rest of the competition.
OTHER TOP-5 FINISHES
Outside of the two first place finishes other athletes finishing in the top-5 in their respective event include: Amy Harding-Delooze (Women's 1000M), Anna Bush (Women's High Jump), Ashlyn Giles (Women's Shot Put), Isabella Gera (Women's Shot Put) and Thomas Kitchell (Men's Shot Put).
