Good Afternoon Demon Deacon Nation!
We've shifted into high gear in DEACTOWN with home contests every night this week starting with No. 4 men's soccer playing inside Spry Stadium at 6 p.m. this evening followed by No. 18 women's soccer's ACC home opener on Wednesday against Miami at 8 p.m. live on ACC Network.
And, did you know that the Wake Forest-NC State football rivalry is the longest continuously running series in the ACC and second longest in the country? That's right - every year going back to 1910, the Deacs and Pack have battled it out on the gridiron, with Wake holding a 4-3 advantage in recent years.
This matchup carries extra meaning with both teams entering at 2-0. I'm especially proud of Coach Jake Dickert and our players for their resilience in last Saturday's six-hour, weather-delayed win over Western Carolina — highlighted by senior tailback Demond Claiborne earning ACC Player of the Week honors. I also want to salute the Spirit of the Old Gold & Black, our Spirit Squads, and Dance Team for keeping the energy high throughout that marathon day.
Now, all eyes turn to Thursday's Big Four rivalry with NC State as ESPN brings its spotlight to Winston-Salem, Wake Forest, and this classic matchup. The buildup begins tonight as students and fans are invited to Manchester Plaza for a special on-campus edition of The Jake Dickert Show at 7 p.m. — a FREE chance to see Coach Dickert live alongside the Voice of the Deacs Stan Cotten as they preview Thursday night's Big Four matchup against NC State. Those in attendance will receive free Dominos pizza and some delicious food samples from Miller's on Robinhood – two tremendous Wake Forest Sports Properties partners – and our friends at Harvest Table will have water and soft drinks available, too! Since this event is after 5 p.m., fans can park wherever it is convenient! The Spirit of the Old Gold & Black will perform and boost the fun atmosphere for early arrivals!
Then on Thursday, the national spotlight turns to Hearn Plaza as ESPN's SportsCenter goes live at 2 p.m. with Matt Barrie hosting "SC on Campus." Coach Jake Dickert will join Barrie for an interview early in the show, and fans will see signature traditions on display—from a cornhole competition with students to a spotlight on our beloved ritual of "Rolling the Quad" after big wins. Students, fans, and the Winston-Salem community are invited to be part of the broadcast, which will showcase the spirit, traditions, and hospitality of Wake Forest. With that, parking is available at the 2400 Reynolda Road lot with FREE fan shuttle service provided by the WAKE LINE to campus beginning at 1 p.m. to get you to the broadcast.
Meanwhile, early on Thursday, I encourage you all to lace up your shoes and join me at 0600 for the annual Climb to Remember inside Allegacy Stadium. Led by ROTC cadet students of Wake Forest, Winston-Salem State, and Salem College, participants will climb 2,997 steps to honor each life lost in the September 11, 2001, terrorist attacks. With remarks, a moment of silence, and the unity of the "No Fear Battalion," this solemn event continues to be a powerful annual tribute to the victims and heroes of that tragic day.
All of this energy leads into the main event — a seismic Big Four showdown in front of a national television audience on ESPN Thursday night at 7:30 p.m., as Coach Jake Dickert's Demon Deacons host NC State. Fans are encouraged to wear black as we pack Allegacy Stadium and showcase Wake Forest football together as a community. Spread the word to neighbors and friends, and remind folks about the limited tickets remaining for Thursday night. Our best value is the Bojangles Four Pack which includes four tickets, a parking pass and $20 Bojangles gift card for only $129! Other ticket options are available here and don't hesitate to call 336-758-3322 or email tix@wfu.edu our hardworking sales staff to lock in your seats. Every conversation at the coffee shop, gym, or restaurant helps extend the hand of Wake Forest hospitality and contributes to the Best Fan Experience in North Carolina.
Together, we'll make this week one to remember.
Exciting Matchups & Contests Abound for Fall Olympic Sports
In addition to the aforementioned soccer matches, field hockey will hit the road for a Friday match at VCU before returning home Sunday to face UMass Lowell at Kentner Stadium where they scored a "touchdown" in their home opener a couple of days ago.
And, inside Varsity Arena, it's a particularly special week for Wake Forest volleyball after two road victories last weekend. Coach Jeff Hulsmeyer's squad, which is on the road at Alabama on Wednesday in the inaugural ACC-SEC "Showdown at the Net" run by ESPN Events, kicks off their afternoon. Come check out our new videoboard in Varsity Arena and be a part of a celebration that also welcomes back program alumni to campus - specifically recognizing the 50th anniversary of our 1975 championship team. Alumnae can register here or reach out to Assistant AD Allison Edwards (edwardsa@wfu.edu) for more information about this weekend-long celebration. With fresh energy, a new era under Coach Hulsmeyer, and passionate alumni in the stands, it's the perfect time to support our volleyball program as they open the home slate.
Kentner Stadium Gets State-of-the-Art Video Board to Enhance Fan Experience
Speaking of Field Hockey, Wake Forest Athletics is taking the game-day experience at Kentner Stadium to the next level with a new state-of-the-art video board, unveiled ahead of Sunday's home opener for field hockey. This upgrade reflects our ongoing commitment to women's athletics and the In Her Wake campaign. The board delivers high-resolution visuals, live video, instant replays, and sponsorship messaging, offering fans unmatched visibility and engagement throughout the field hockey season, as well as during our annual home track and field meet this spring. By enhancing both the student-athlete and fan experience, the new video board honors our proud history while creating an even more dynamic atmosphere for the next generation of Demon Deacons.
Nationally Renowned Golf Programs Begin Fall Season - One Championship Already Won!
Back on Sunday, the men's team captured the Bryan National Collegiate title in Greensboro, highlighted by junior transfer Nicholas Prieto's championship in his very first tournament as a Demon Deacon as the Deacs won the tournament by 23 strokes! Meanwhile, our women's team opened the season against a loaded national field at the prestigious ANNIKA Intercollegiate in Minnesota. After Monday's first round, the Deacs are in fourth place and just two strokes behind third with two Deacs in the top 10. Competition continues through Wednesday as Coach Kim Lewellen's squad looks to get the 2025-26 season off to a hot start!
Mark Your Calendar! Wake Forest Hoops Schedules Set
The Atlantic Coast Conference recently announced our league schedules for men's and women's basketball! Behind the passion of Deacon Nation and the tutelage of head coach Steve Forbes, Wake Forest men's basketball has built one of college basketball's premier home court advantages over the last four seasons, as the Demon Deacons have amassed a 61-10 record at LJVM Coliseum since 2021—tied nationally for the fourth-most home wins over that period. Meanwhile, Coach Megan Gebbia has restocked her roster with an infusion of exciting young talent as well as veteran transfers, adding eight new players in total ahead of the 2025-26 season. It's been fun to see both squads working hard in the practice gym since the fall semester started. Don't wait and lock in your season tickets for men's basketball start at $195 (plus fees), and women's basketball season tickets are $60 for adults and $49 for youth (ages 2–18) and seniors (65+). Purchase online or contact the Wake Forest ticket office at (336) 758-3322, Monday–Friday, 8:30 a.m.–5:00 p.m. today!
Speaking of hoops, join me in congratulating Chris Paul as he and his teammates from the 2008 U.S. Men's Basketball team that won a Gold Medal at the Beijing Olympics were inducted into the Basketball Hall of Fame last weekend!

Finally, here are today's Big 3 ways to help the Deacs:
- From the Quad Readers!
- John Dell from the Winston-Salem Journal caught up with Coach Dickert's college head coach John Miech on Jake's incredible journey that led him to being our head football coach.
- Wake Forest alum and former Arnold Palmer Award recipient Zach Facioni won a national title at the 2025 Australian Athletics Cross Country Championships.
- The Charlotte Business Journal spotlighted our announcement of the 2027 Duke's Mayo Classic between Wake Forest and Notre Dame at Bank of America Stadium.
- Our traditional night-before-home-football-game fireworks display will take place on Wednesday this week around 9 p.m. and will be launched from the throws field adjacent to the McCreary Football Complex at halftime of the women's soccer match at Spry Stadium. If you live close to campus, please be sure and remind your neighbors to expect a little noise around that time.
- I know I mentioned this last week too, but be sure to visit GoDeacs.com/Parking2025 and check out our Gameday Central page and map out your plans ahead of your trip to Allegacy Stadium. I just want to make sure you can enjoy your tailgate or some time in the DEACTOWN Fan Zone presented by Lowes Foods so you can get to your seat and see 2025 ESPY Award recipient and women's soccer alumnae Erin Regan serve as our Open the Gate honoree!
