This past Saturday marked out last home game and last game of the regular season. The last home game is traditionally Senior Day. Prior to the game, each senior was announced and walked out onto the field with their family. Senior Day is the highlight of the seniors' season because it's the pinnacle of our hockey career at Wake Forest and the last time we will set out to play a regular season game on our field.
As with other things that are a part of Wake Hockey, there is a lot of tradition when it comes to Senior Day. I already mentioned the pre-game ceremony that highlights the seniors, but the celebration does not end there. After the game there is a banquet that is organized by the junior class and their parents. The junior class parents transform the Roveere Room, located in the Miller Center, into a room filled with Wake Forest decorations and delicious food. This year, the junior parents exceeded expectations with center pieces that were handmade Deacon Dolls and a reception that had light hors d'oeuvres, three choices for a main course (meatballs, chicken parmesan, and backed ziti), and then a table filled with a variety of desserts. After everyone had eaten, the juniors showed a film that had pictures of the senior's journey and then presented us with a gift from the team. This year, we received a necklace with our initials engraved on it. The junior class and the team truly made Senior Day memorable for all of us and made everyone excited to extend our seasons through post-season games.
