Good Afternoon Demon Deacon Nation!
The Deacs are on fire! From women's and men's golf winning the Bryan National Intercollegiate and Old Town Club Intercollegiate yesterday, women's soccer earning their 10th win of the season last Sunday at Syracuse, to Coach Dave Clawson and our undefeated football team now ranked and sitting atop the ACC Atlantic Division after a hard-earned road win at Virginia, it's another great week for Demon Deacon fans.
We have eight contests coming this weekend, including men's soccer in Spry Stadium on Friday night vs. Clemson and football hosting Louisville on Saturday at Truist Field. Additionally, volleyball and field hockey are in the midst of Atlantic Coast Conference play and both tennis programs fall schedules are now in full swing.
With kickoff set for 12:30 p.m., bring your entire family or a friend to the DEACTOWN Fan Zone presented by Forsyth County Farm Bureau Insurance that opens at 9:30 a.m. for FREE live music, games for the kids, food trucks, the Lowes Foods Beer Den and more!
Additionally after Friday's men's soccer match, we'll treat Deacon Nation to our traditional game week Friday night fireworks launched right behind Jack W. Owen II Videoboard at Spry Stadium. Saturday morning Coach Steve Forbes and our men's basketball team will be hosting an open practice to the public from 10 a.m. to 11:45 a.m. inside Lawrence Joel Veterans Memorial Coliseum. Admission is FREE to get a sneak peek at our men's hoops team!
Meanwhile, Winston-Salem's Carolina Classic Fair is back beginning Friday night and Wake Forest Athletics is a proud partner with them to offer a combination ticket package for admission to Saturday's football game and the Fair for just $28!
DEACTOWN Growing
Passionate fans and a great community make Wake Forest special (and this football Twitter account header shows how much our players appreciate that!). Thanks to the great work of our fan experience staff and our partners in Communications & External Relations at Wake Forest, our DEACTOWN rollout has been well received by so many.
Remember, DEACTOWN is always open to ALL Wake Forest fans, new and old, regardless of where they went to school or where they call home. And for Wake Forest students, it's an idea that reflects how they walk the walk of being a Demon Deacon both within and beyond the community. This rallying cry is also about showcasing Wake Forest's commitment to the Winston-Salem and Triad community to feel welcome at Demon Deacon ballgames and events.
Multi-Year Contract Extension for John Hayes
I was proud to share the news last week that Wake Forest has inked Coach Hayes to a multi-year contract extension! Coach Hayes has done an outstanding job recruiting and coaching student-athletes who uphold and raise the Pro Humanitate spirit of our University community. We have seen continued program improvement and I am looking forward to seeing our nationally ranked cross country programs compete this weekend at Coastal Carolina and at the ACC and NCAA Championships later this fall!
Update Your Calendars! Men's & Women's Basketball Schedules Announced
Coach Jen Hoover returns All-ACC honoree Jewel Spear and other vets as the Deacs look to return to the NCAA Tournament for the second-straight season, while Coach Steve Forbes enters the 2021-22 season with a new look roster anchored by Daiven Williamson and Isaiah Mucius. In our effort to provide the Best Fan Experience in North Carolina, we have introduced flexible and value-added options to cheer both our programs during the upcoming season. The FLEX ticket membership is a brand new, fan-friendly option enabling fans to customize their plans for Deacon hoops in Joel Coliseum. Click here to purchase tickets!
Among the newcomers to Deacon Nation is graduate transfer Dallas Walton who completed an internship with Nike over the summer ...another World Class Student-Athlete Experience example!
Proud to Celebrate LatinX Month
Throughout September we have celebrated LatinX Heritage Month, honoring the Latino-identified communities around the world. Led by associate AD Ashley Wechter, Student-Athlete Development has gathered stories, including the story of Wake Forest's punter Ivan Mora, and others of our Latino/Hispanic community. We want every Deacon to feel celebrated and affirmed, and we are proud of our partnership with the Office of Diversity & Inclusion.
ACC Announces Inaugural UNITE Award Recipients; Four Demon Deacons Honored
As a charter member of the ACC, Wake Forest University is proud to participate in this effort to annually honor trailblazers at each institution. It took deep faith for Bob Grant, Butch Henry, Sonya Henderson and Keeva Jackson to believe that their teammates, the coaching staff, our University leadership and the Winston-Salem community would offer steady support as they embarked on their academic and competitive careers at Wake Forest. Their character, talents and fortitude to persevere marked the trail for future student-athletes of color at Wake Forest.
We look forward to honoring Bob Grant and Butch Henry's incredible legacy on Nov. 13 for our inaugural Trailblazer Award ceremony prior to Wake Forest's home game against NC State.
Wake Forest Athletics Honors Brooke Smith & Family Generosity!
It was special to recognize the Harry Smith Family's tremendous generosity by naming the women's soccer office suite in honor of alumna and former player Brooke Smith on her birthday, September 17! Current and future soccer Demon Deacons benefit from this and other sports specific gifts as we keep the focus on our goal of providing a World Class Student-Athlete Experience.
As we continue to celebrate 50 Years of Women's Intercollegiate Athletics at Wake Forest, presented by Blue Cross NC, I encourage you to read some of our recent stories including women's basketball legend Amy Privette Perko sharing that her experience at Wake Forest was "everything she could have hoped for and more." Additionally, two-time national champion and 2003 National Player of the Year Kelly Doton shared in a profile of her career that coming to Wake Forest was the "best decision I've made in my life."
Stay tuned to GoDeacs.com, the free daily feature story that comes into your inbox at 7 a.m. each morning through the Deacon Sports Xtra and more content and stories on our social media platforms for unique and commemorative content. Meanwhile, we are looking forward to hosting our next Wake Forest Women's Center tailgate on Friday, Oct. 15 at Kentner Stadium for our home match against North Carolina!

Here are today's Big 3 ways to help the Deacs:
Zach Tom epitomizes all the values that the Campbell Trophy and National Football Foundation espouse and truly represents the "good of the game." On behalf of President Susan R. Wente, Ph.D., head coach Dave Clawson and the entire Demon Deacon Nation, I am proud to support his candidacy for this prestigious award.
It's a big weekend. Have fun, get loud, send your thoughts to me at wfuad@wfu.edu and...
