It's Gameday Demon Deacon Nation!
This Veterans Day edition of From The Quad is coming to you live from Detroit where tonight at 6:30 p.m. the Demon Deacons take on defending Big Ten champion and sixth-ranked Michigan in the Wolverine-Deacon Challenge at Little Caesars Arena! The Deacs will look to repeat the joy of last year's 72–70 thrilling win over the Wolverines in Greensboro as part of an ambitious non-conference schedule that sets the tone for ACC play.
Get your television tuned to FS1 for the live national broadcast - even on YouTubeTV - as Coach Steve Forbes' team followed an opening-night win over American on Nov. 3 with a victory over Morehead State last Friday as the Deacs were led by sophomore Juke Harris' breakout 29 point and nine rebound performance against the Eagles. Meanwhile Tre'Von Spillers continued his dominance inside with another double-double and transfers Mekhi Mason (Washington), Nate Calmese (Washington State), and Myles Colvin (Purdue) have delivered balance and aggressiveness in transition and on the glass.
Today, we honor our nation's veterans who have served, fought, and sacrificed for the freedoms we enjoy in the United States of America. Every good Wake Forest history major knows the holiday's origin as Armistice Day, commemorating the moment the guns of World War I fell silent at the 11th hour of the 11th day of the 11th month in 1917. Recently, Coach Steve Forbes took time to share with our team the Vietnam War heroics of Lawrence Joel, the namesake of our coliseum and a true American hero. We also look forward to saluting the many veterans and active-duty military personnel who will help make up a capacity crowd at Allegacy Stadium this Saturday at 4:30 p.m., as the BOWL BOUND Demon Deacons welcome the Tar Heels!
And so…
HOW 'BOUT THOSE FOOTBALL DEMON DEACONS!
Led by the Spirit of the Old Gold & Black, we had a hardy group of Wake Forest fans last Saturday night who made themselves heard in Charlottesville as Coach Jake Dickert and our football team continued their remarkable 2025 campaign with another statement win over the No. 12 ranked and ACC leading Cavaliers.
Behind a tough and gritty performance that included an 88-yard punt return touchdown by junior Carlos Hernandez, who took the mic and shouted out Deacon Nation after the huge win, Wake Forest is now 8-2 in our last 10 games against programs from the Commonwealth. This season marks the first time since 1964 that the Demon Deacons have won inside Lane Stadium (at Virginia Tech) and Scott Stadium (at Virginia) in the same year!
The win also marked the sixth of Coach Dickert's debut season in Winston-Salem, tying him for the second-most victories ever by a first-year head coach at Wake Forest and placing him among the nation's winningest newcomers in 2025. Built in the Dark, the Deacs continue to embody toughness, togetherness and belief — delivering one of the program's most complete and memorable road performances in recent years on Saturday at Virginia.
With the win over the Cavaliers, Wake Forest officially clinched a postseason bowl berth for the eighth time in the last 10 seasons. When the Demon Deacons take the field during bowl season, they will be tied for the second-most postseason appearances among ACC programs since 2016 — a testament to our program's consistency and sustained excellence.
Click here for more information on the 2025 bowl season. Deacon Nation can also complete our bowl information form to stay updated, and additional details on specific-game tickets, fan events, and travel packages will be shared on Sunday, December 7, when Wake Forest's bowl destination is announced. With that, Wake Forest Bowl Bound merchandise will soon be available at WakeForestShop.com, where fans can also find the latest Demon Deacons gear to celebrate another remarkable season.
As the Deacs are now 6-3, there's no better time to lock in your seats for the much-anticipated 2026 season at Allegacy Federal Credit Union Stadium. Season ticket deposits are now available, along with a limited number of new $99 Built in the Dark ticket plans—available through the Deacs' December bowl game. Those looking to renew or purchase in other locations can place a $50 season ticket deposit per seat. Fans who secure their seats before bowl season will receive a head coach Jake Dickert bobblehead (one per account; two for accounts with four or more tickets). A full 2026 schedule, including opponents, dates and kickoff times, will be announced later by the ACC.
Wake Forest fans have helped make Allegacy Stadium one of the most electric environments in college football—hosting more than a dozen sellouts since 2021, averaging over 95% capacity and 80% student attendance since 2022. As the 2025 season continues, Deacon Nation still has two more chances to pack Allegacy Stadium: Saturday vs. North Carolina, a Big Four rivalry game with fewer than 500 tickets remaining, and Nov. 22 vs. Delaware, when the Deacs celebrate Senior Day. For questions, contact the Wake Forest Ticket Office at 336-758-3322 ext. 1 or tix@wfu.edu. Office hours are Monday through Friday, 8:30 a.m. to 5:00 p.m.
Celebrating Those Who Shape Our Future: Educator Appreciation Game Set for Nov. 22
Speaking of our home game vs. Delaware on Nov. 22 inside Allegacy Stadium, Wake Forest Football is proud to honor the teachers and staff of Winston-Salem/Forsyth County Schools for a special Educator Celebration Game, presented by Allegacy Federal Credit Union, Proof of the Pudding, Pepsi and Inmar Intelligence. Thanks to this community partnership, more than 3,000 educators and their families will receive complimentary game tickets, meals, parking, and t-shirts — giving those who dedicate their lives to shaping young minds a well-deserved day of fun and appreciation in DEACTOWN. Throughout the game, Wake Forest will recognize select WSFC educators and staff members for their impact and service.
This celebration represents our community at its best — coming together to support our educators and strengthen our schools. Regardless of the fiscal winds swirling above, our teachers, custodians, and support staff are fully invested every day in caring for and inspiring our children. Together with our partners, we're proud to salute WSFC educators and give them this special day in Allegacy Stadium.
With that, fans interested in sponsoring additional educator ticket packages can do so here and if you are interested in supporting the Winston-Salem Forsyth County Schools directly, you can do so via the Winston-Salem Foundation.
Baker Family Commitment Propels Wake Forest Football Forward
Wake Forest Athletics is proud to announce a multi-million dollar investment from Prentiss ('65) and Joan Baker for Demon Deacon Football. In their honor we are proud to create the Baker Family Assistant Head Coach position, currently held by Justin Kramer. One of Wake Forest's most loyal families, the Bakers' gift expands scholarship opportunities, enhances student-athlete performance and nutrition resources, and sustains leadership excellence through the Coaching and Directorship Initiative. Their generosity will also establish a new named scholarship for a football student-athlete. I'm grateful for my friendship with Prentiss and Joan and their entire family, whose vision and commitment exemplify the power of loyalty and leadership in shaping a championship future for Wake Forest student-athletes.
Women's Basketball Off to a Hot Start, Hosting Mercer on Thursday at 6 p.m.; Men Return to Joel Coliseum on Sunday
Megan Gebbia's women's team is off to a 3–0 start, marking a confident beginning to her fourth season at the helm. The Deacs opened with a gritty win over Radford, followed by a dominant 78–41 performance against Presbyterian, and capped opening week with a win over Hampton on Sunday. Freshman guard Milan Brown has made an immediate impression, scoring in double figures multiple times, while transfer standouts Mary Carter (Cal Poly) and Grace Oliver (Colorado) have added consistency to a roster blending experience and young talent.
Meanwhile, a big Deacon Weekend concludes with the men's team in Joel Coliseum on Sunday, Nov. 16 for a 2 p.m. tipoff against UMass Lowell. Tickets for all remaining men's and women's home games — including season, flex, and mini-plan packages — are available now at GoDeacs.com/Tickets or by calling 336-758-3322.
Goal No. 4 - Win Championships! Rocky Hansen Captures Individual XC Crown; Field Hockey Shares Regular Season Title
Junior Rocky Hansen once again proved why he's one of the premier distance runners in the country, claiming the ACC Individual Title with a record-shattering time of 22:18.6—a full 40 seconds faster than the previous course best at Louisville's E.P. "Tom" Sawyer State Park. Rocky's performance was nothing short of dominant and continues to elevate Wake Forest's national presence in distance running.
Our 12th-ranked men's team finished third overall against an elite ACC field. Sophomore JoJo Jourdon joined Rocky as an All-ACC honoree, while Hunter Jones, Paul Specht, and Joe O'Brien rounded out a deep, disciplined group that continues to compete among the nation's best. On the women's side, Angelina Perez once again led the charge with a ninth-place finish—her fourth top-10 performance this season—as the 28th-ranked Demon Deacons placed ninth overall. Brooke Wilson, Elizabeth Whaley, Maisie Wilmer, and Mackenzie Hart contributed strong finishes as well.
The Demon Deacons continue postseason action on Friday at the NCAA Southeast Regional in Earlysville, Va. for individual and team spots at the NCAA Championship! Stay tuned to GoDeacs.com and @WakeTrack on social media for more information.
Not to be outdone, Wake Forest field hockey capped a spectacular 2025 regular season at 15-3 overall and 7-1 in ACC play, earning a share of the ACC Regular Season Championship for the first time since 2006. Coach Jen Averill's squad won 15 of its final 16 games — including six over ranked opponents — and will enter the NCAA Tournament this weekend riding tremendous momentum. Fittingly, the Deacs dominated the league's postseason honors, sweeping four of the ACC's five major awards — including Offensive Player of the Year, Defensive Player of the Year, Freshman of the Year, and Coach of the Year — and placing five players on All-ACC teams after one of the most successful seasons in program history.
The Deacs are in the NCAA Tournament for the 19th time and the first time since 2022. Wake Forest will face UConn in the first round on Friday, Nov. 14, in Cambridge, Mass. as Harvard is the host of this Round of 16/Quarterfinal matches. Stay tuned to GoDeacs.com and @WakeHockey on social media for more information.
Before we move on, Coach Jeff Hulsmeyer's volleyball squad continues to make strides forward in his inaugural season as the Demon Deacons downed Notre Dame on Seniors & Graduates Night inside Varsity Arena last Friday! There is just one more opportunity to see this talented team in Winston-Salem as the Deacs hit the road the next two weekends and next play on campus on Wednesday, Nov. 26 at 3 p.m.
Sports Business Journal Shines Spotlight on the "The Grounds"
We're grateful to Bret McCormick of the internationally renowned Sports Business Journal for coming to Winston-Salem and capturing the story of the tremendous progress of The Grounds. You can see the $250 million Phase I coming to life everyday on the 100-acre site nestled among Allegacy Stadium, Lawrence Joel Veterans Memorial Coliseum, David F. Couch Ballpark, the Winston-Salem Fairgrounds and Arena. Soon, the nearly 800,000 people who attend Demon Deacons football, basketball, baseball, and tennis events — along with the Carolina Classic Fair, Thunderbirds hockey, high school graduations, concerts, and the ATP Tour Winston-Salem Open each year — will be able to enjoy the experiential retail and dining, expanded green space, and trails of The Grounds. Fans attending Saturday's game will also be amazed by the visible progress on the Creekside student residential project, which is set to open for the fall semester of 2027.
Demon Deacon Alumni Making Waves
This Saturday, we are excited to welcome home Nick Kurtz, Wake Forest baseball All-American and 2025 American League Rookie of the Year who will Open the Gate for the football game against North Carolina. Kurtz's stellar Wake Forest career included 61 home runs, a .333 batting average, and numerous program records, laying the foundation for an impressive MLB debut season with 36 home runs and 86 RBIs.
We are also proud of men's golf alum Michael Brennan, who captured his first PGA TOUR victory at the Bank of Utah Championship in just his third start, earning a two-year Tour exemption through 2027. Brennan won eight times at Wake Forest including two ACC titles and his exceptional talent and competitive drive is shining through on the professional stage.
And in the business world, Mit Shah ('91), CEO of Noble Investment Group and longtime Wake Forest supporter, has been named the 2026 Arne Sorenson Social Impact Leadership Award recipient by the American Hotel & Lodging Association, the AHLA Foundation, and The BHN Group/Northstar Travel Group. The award recognizes industry leaders who drive positive societal change through values-based leadership and community investment. Shah's career has exemplified Pro Humanitate in action and through the Shah Family Foundation, he and his family have supported education, medical research, and opportunity creation across the country.

Finally, here are today's Big 3 ways to help the Deacs:
- Join me Friday night inside Spry Stadium as Coach Tony da Luz and the Wake Forest women's soccer team host South Carolina from the Southeastern Conference at 6 p.m. in NCAA Tournament first round action. Three Demon Deacons earned All-ACC honors this fall and Kylie Maxwell was named the ACC Freshman of the Year!
